University of Eastern Finland
The University of Eastern Finland was established in 2010. The University of Eastern Finland operates on two main campuses, in Joensuu and Kuopio, and the university also has a campus in Savonlinna. Each of the campuses has a distinct profile and Copperation between the campuses in research, education and supporting services is close. With approximately 14 000 students and 3000 members of staff, the University of Eastern Finland is one of the largest universities in Finland. The profile of the university underscores multidisciplinarity and the four faculties of the University of Eastern Finland, i.e. the Philosophical Faculty, the Faculty of Science and Forestry, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, offer teaching in more than 100 major subjects. The university has extensive international relations and the university`s teaching and research staff and students are active in participating in various mobility programs.
The University of Eastern Finland is a multidisciplinary university which is internationally recognised for its high standard of research and education. The university has a strong profile in its areas of expertise: Forests and the Environment, Health and Well-being, and New Technologies and Materials. The university has also selected two regionally and nationally significant fields in which the university`s research activities will be further strengthened: Broad-Based Expertise Pertaining to Russia and Selected Fields of Teacher Education. With its extensive networks, the university constitutes a significant competence cluster, which promotes the well-being and positive development of eastern Finland. The University of Eastern Finland aims to be among the top three most significant universities in Finland and among the leading 200 universities in the world. The central values guiding the operations of the university are freedom of science, ethicality and justice. The well-being of students is among the primary concerns of the university and, in addition to the high standard of teaching, the university offers its students a modern study environment, which is under constant development.
