University of Aberdeen
Founded in 1495, the University of Aberdeen has a student population of over 15,000 and a large international community of students drawn from 120 countries. The University has an excellent reputation for teaching quality and research, and gives students a unique experience through a reformed curriculum, exciting new campus facilities, and a wide range of student support. On the King`s College campus in Old Aberdeen modern facilities sit seamlessly within the history and heritage of Scotland`s third oldest university. Just a stone`s throw from the iconic King`s College Chapel is the striking, sharp cube of the Sir Duncan Rice Library. Its dramatic, twisting interior provides an inspiring study environment with outstanding collections of ancient manuscripts, books and other treasures on show in regular exhibitions. On the Foresterhill health campus, the Suttie Centre for Teaching and Learning in Healthcare is ensuring that northeast Scotland is at the forefront of medical teaching and clinical training, while the existing research facilities will be complemented in 2014 by a new building dedicated to world-leading research in food and health. The nearby the Aberdeen Sports Village provides state of the art indoor and outdoor facilities for a wide range of sports at all levels and abilities, including from 2014 the Olympic-standard Aberdeen Aquatic Centre.
Our ambition is to build on our history to enhance the University of Aberdeen`s reputation as one of the world`s leading universities. Our mission is to be recognised throughout the world as a renowned international university, focussing on society`s future needs and challenges, employing the best staff and delivering a unique and stimulating intellectual experience for students. Our strengths are our people, both current staff and students and our alumni, scattered widely across the globe. We will work to engage with all the Aberdeen family in the next few years, through keeping them informed of our successes and engaging them with our plans.
