Saint-Petersburg State University is the oldest classical university in Russia founded in 1724. Among the outstanding University alumni are 7 Nobel laureates, several Presidents and Prime-ministers. Nowadays there are 23 faculties (Applied Mathematics & Control Processes, Arts ,Liberal arts&Scinces Asian & African Studies, Biology & Soil Science, Chemistry, Economics, Geography & Geo-ecology, Geology, History, School of International Relations, School of Journalism&Media Communications, Law, Graduate School of Management, Mathematics & Mechanics, Medicine, Dental Medicine and Medical Technologies, Philology, Philosophy, Political Science, Physics, Psychology, Sociology), in the structure of the University together with Department of Physical Culture and Sports, Academic Classical School.

The University offers and provides everything for learning, research and extracurricular activities. At everybody`s disposal is the richest Maxim Gorky Research Library, the research centers and laboratories, the museums, the University publishing house, sport clubs etc. Based on the traditions and innovations University is a center of study and research to gain quality education and scientific experiences. Saint-Petersburg State University has Resource Centers providing modern equipment for research and education. Among them are Interdisciplinary Centre for ?Nanotechnology?, Centre for analysis for the ultrastructure and molecular composition of biological objects ?CHROMAS?, Centre for Dynamics, Centre for Microscopy and Microanalysis. The University demonstrates significant experience in the development and implementation of new technologies. In November 2009 President of the Russian Federation signed a law, which specified the University special status of ?the unique educational and research complex?. The university has acquired a right to design its own educational programs and issue University degree certificates of its own format. In 2011 The Russian Government adopted the Development Programme for our University till 2020. According to it the priority fields were defined: ? nanotechnology and material science; ? biomedicine and human health; ? ecology, nature rational utilization and protection; ? information systems and technologies; ? staff management and technologies
