Cochin University of Science and Technology
The Cochin University of Science and Technology was established in 1971 as the University of Cochin, which was a commitment from the Government of Kerala in tune with the new scientific policy resolution adopted by the Central Government on 4th March 1958. ‘Development of higher education with particular emphasis on post-graduate studies and research in applied science, technology, industry and commerce’ was the specific intend of this venture. The University of Cochin was reorganized as Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) in February 1986. The University now has three campuses, one at Thrikkakara and another, named Lakeside campus at Ernakulam besides a rural campus at Pulinkunnu, Alappuzha, the ‘rice bowl’ of Kerala. Located 12 km north of Ernakulam city, the main campus at Thrikkakara houses the main Administrative Building of the University and various Departments. As a unique University, which has its focus on Science and Technology, giving adequate importance to Social Science, Humanities and Law, we perceive a distinct role for us in the Higher Education domain. Our academic programmes with their thrust on Post Graduate teaching and research have wide acceptance. The University has strengthened its contacts and collaborative tie-ups with several other universities and institutions within India and abroad and is in the path of growth as a centre for the generation of new knowledge in frontier areas of learning.
The University’s basic philosophy and goals find eloquent expression in its Coat of Arms emblazoning the motto ‘Tejaswinavadhitamastu’ which in essence means ‘May the wisdom accrued deify us both – the teacher and the taught – and percolate to the universe in its totality’.
