University of Seville
The University of Seville is a public institution whose mission is “the provision of public higher education through study, teaching, and research, as well as the generation, development, and dissemination of knowledge at the service of society and citizenship“. The University of Seville`s commitment to society is based on promoting a holistic approach to knowledge through the creation, development, transmission, dissemination, and critique of science, technology, art, culture, and regular physical activity. The University, in accordance with its mission statement, is committed to engaging its members with the local, regional, state, and international communities, fostering scientific, technical, cultural, social, athletic, economic, and regional growth. Similarly, the University considers it an essential task to train a free-thinking, participative, innovative, critically and rigorously aware community. It also strives to encourage and train its members to exercise their civic duties in a supportive and responsible fashion. Higher education is not a matter that can be judged as just another component of the dynamics of the economy. The University is a public service, where future plans cannot be determined by the application of market politics.
In addition to meeting the professional training needs of society, the University is expected to satisfy the needs of the society as a whole. Therefore, university students must not be treated as mere paying customers, but as individuals with the right to the best possible education. The University is not an appendage of the business world; however, any necessary interaction with businesses will always be subject to the aforementioned objectives as stipulated by the University. The University must be concerned with taking measures to curb absenteeism and the apathetic attitude many students have toward their academic process, in addition to the basic training inadequacies most often seen during a student`s formative years in higher education. As the University of Seville is an on-site university, online education will not be treated as the core of our methodology, but as technical support. Any measures seeking to increase the number of students must be supported by the corresponding budgetary measures necessary to provide them with an adequate service. Were that not the case, our University would be forced to return to the previous system of mass education, disapproved by the European authorities. It is impossible to improve upon the quality of teaching without adequate funding. In order to provide a more personalized service to our students, it is vital that we recruit the necessary teaching, research, and administrative staff and services. Equal treatment must be provided to those degrees with skills that are not directly applicable to the business world. Furthermore, training programs at the University will always include the Humanities and similar studies. The research mission of the University is to produce knowledge, promote tangible, humanistic and scientific development, and human progress. The University will establish rigorous quality control systems, applicable without exceptions upon the whole university community and based on a general consensus.
