Adam Mickiewicz University
Adam Mickiewicz University is the major academic institution in Poznan` and one of the top Polish universities. Its reputation has been founded on tradition, achievements of the academic staff, and an attractive curriculum offered to students. No doubt, the AMU is now one of the Polish institutions which are playing a significant role in socio-economic and cultural transformations going on in Central-East Europe. Among its more than one hundred honorary doctors are Nobel Prize winners: Maria Curie-Sklodowska and Wis`awa Szymborska, Javier Solana, and Pope John Paul II. AMU is a proud bearer of the name of Adam Mickiewicz, a Polish bard of European Romanticism, compared to Lord G. Byron or Goethe. Among about 3000 AMU faculty members there are 750 full professor and associate professors. More than 150 visiting lecturers and professors come from abroad. Moreover, the university has entered into about 200 partnership agreements with academic institutions all over the world. AMU researchers currently implement 550 projects funded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education and participate in 40 international research projects. The university boasts of almost fifty thousand undergraduate, graduate, PhD and postgraduate students in its full-time and part-time programs. AMU is a member of many research international groups and collaboration and mobility networks.
AMU`s mission is to advance knowledge through quality research and teaching in partnership with business and public services. The University is a centre of academic excellence, where research and teaching are mutually sustaining and where the context within which research is conducted and knowledge is sought and applied is international as much as regional and national. We continuously extend and update research programs and study curricula, with emphasis on their interdisciplinary and international nature. As a strategic partner in Central Europe, AMU aspires to contribute to the region`s economic growth, social development and environmental sustainability. We align our principles with those of the Great Charter of European Universities. We aim to strengthen ties with EU Member States and embark on new research initiatives.
