Glencore plc is a British–Swiss multinational commodity trading and mining company with headquarters in Baar, Switzerland, and its registered office in Saint Helier, Jersey. The current company was created through a merger of Glencore with Xstrata on 2 May 2013.
Glencore Plc is a holding company, which engages in the producing and marketing of commodities. It operates through the following three segments: Metals and Minerals, Energy Products and Agricultural Products. The Metals and Minerals segment includes zinc, copper, lead, alumina, aluminum, ferro alloys, nickel, cobalt and iron ore, including smelting, refining, mining, processing and storage related operations of the relevant commodities. The Energy Products segment includes crude oil, oil products, steam coal and metallurgical coal supported by investments in coal mining and oil production operations, ports, vessels and storage facilities. The Agricultural Products segment includes wheat, corn, canola, barley, rice, oil seeds, meals, edible oils, bio-fuels, cotton and sugar supported by investments in farming, storage, handling, processing and port facilities. The company was founded in 1974 and is headquartered in Baar, Switzerland.
