Charles University in Prague (CU), one of the world`s oldest universities, was founded in 1348 with the status of accredited public university; it is an autonomous scientific and educational institution. It is made up of 17 faculties, 3 university institutes, 6 centres for educational, scientific, research, development, 5 university-wide special facilities and the Rectorate. It has 4,400 academic and research staff educating and leading 52,000 students. CU covers the full spectrum of fields: medicine, pharmacy, science, humanities, social sciences, theology and sport at bachelor, master and doctoral levels. There are more than 300 accredited degree programmes with over 600 specialisations. Approximately 20,000 study in bachelors, 25,000 in masters and 8,000 in doctoral programmes. 7,400 students are from abroad. CU`s income is roughly 8,3 billion Czech crowns per year. 37% comes from educational funding, roughly 32% from competitive research grants, and the rest is CU`s own income.

Its main priority is the development of research activities and high quality study programs, mainly master and doctoral, focused on students research activities, strong support devoted to young researches.
