Lim Kok Thay
Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay is a Malaysian Chinese billionaire businessman. He is a board executive and Chairman of Genting Group, a casinos, resorts and palm oil conglomerate with a market capitalization of almost US$40 billion, and the second son of fellow billionaire Lim Goh Tong, the company’s founder.
- As Genting chairman, Lim Kok Thay has fast expanded the group’s global footprint in the gaming sector. Resorts World Las Vegas is next.
- Plans for its movie-inspired theme park at Resorts World Genting collapsed in 2018 after a fallout with 20th Century Fox. Genting sued for $1 billion.
- In 2018 Lim opened Resorts World Catskills, but the $1.2 billion casino-and-entertainment complex has struggled to lure visitors to upstate New York.
- The setbacks come amid a family feud over the empire‘s wealth and businesses, which include a palm-oil unit, that has been making local headlines.
