James Dyson

Sir James Dyson OM CBE FRS FREng is a British inventor, industrial designer and founder and chief executive of Dyson Ltd. Traditionally, he is best known as the inventor of the Dual Cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner, which works on the principle of cyclonic separation.

• James Dyson is chairman of Dyson, whose more than 60 consumer products generated $5.8 billion in sales in 2018.
• Frustrated with his family’s vacuum, Dyson set out to invent a better version in 1978 using a cyclone to lift dirt.
• Dyson employs more than 5,800 engineers around the world and says it invests about $10 million a week in product development.
• Dyson’s own electric car, which will cost $2.7 billion in R&D, will be manufactured in Singapore and launch in 2021.
• Dyson, who attended art school in London, does not have an engineering degree.
• Dyson’s popular line of intelligent air purifiers claims to have used the data to create the most accurate picture of indoor air quality worldwide.
