W. Herbert Hunt
William Herbert Hunt is an American oil billionaire, who along with his brothers Nelson Bunker Hunt and Lamar Hunt tried but failed to corner the world market in silver. According to Forbes, as of January 2015 his net worth is estimated at $2.0 billion.
One of 15 children (by three women) of legendary oil wildcatter H.L. Hunt.
With brother Nelson Bunker Hunt (d. 2014), he tried to corner the world silver market, but failed when the price of the metal collapsed 80% in 1980.
Hunt succeeded in the oil business; in 2013 he sold his Bakken oilfield acreage to publicly traded Halcon Resources for $1.5 billion cash and stock.
He owns a refinery in Louisiana and oil company Petro-Hunt.
Hunt and his brother Nelson (d. 2014) reportedly once owned a collection of Greek and Roman coins and bronzes that sold for $20 million in 1990.
