The Swatch Group Ltd is a Swiss manufacturer of watches and jewellery. The company was founded in 1983 by Nicolas Hayek from the merger of Allgemeine Gesellschaft der Schweizerischen Uhrenindustrie (ASUAG) and Société Suisse pour l’Industrie Horlogère (SSIH), in order to cope with the quartz crisis and save the Swiss watchmaking industry.
The Swatch Group AG engages in the design, manufacture, and sale of finished watches, jewelry as well as watch movements and components. It operates through Watches and Jewelry and Electronic Systems. The Watches and Jewelry segment designs, produces, and markets watches and jewelry. The Electronic Systems segment develops, manufactures, and sells electronic components and sports timing activities. The company was founded by Nicolas G. Hayek in 1983 and is headquartered in Biel, Switzerland.
