Leeds Beckett University
Leeds Beckett University is a university in the city of Leeds in the north of England. It was founded in 1992 from Leeds Polytechnic but can trace its roots back to 1824 and the foundation of Leeds Mechanics Institute. The University has two campuses, the Headingley campus situated on 100 acres of parkland on the northern outskirts of the city and the City campus located a few minutes from the city centre. In 2010 the Broadcasting Place building on the City campus was judged the best tall building in the world. The University more than 32,000 students on programmes at home and abroad, of which 28,000 are on courses at its campus in Leeds, and 3000 staff and offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses across four faculties: Arts, Environment and Technology, Business and Law, Carnegie and Health and Social Sciences. The University has strong links with businesses in the region and is well-known for offering practical courses with integrated work placements in a range of subject areas. The University is the only UK university to hold both the Investors in People Gold Accreditation and the Customer Service Excellence standard, a Government benchmark awarded to public sector bodies who demonstrate a commitment to driving customer-focused change within their organisation.
