Tsinghua University

Established in 1911, Tsinghua University has 19 schools and 55 departments with faculties in science, engineering, literature, art, history, philosophy, economics, management, law, education and medicine. As one of the country`s leading universities of learning and research, Tsinghua has a strong commitment to basic research, applied research and scientific innovation. Over 35,000 full-time students are studying at Tsinghua, including 3,500 international students from 121 countries. The university offers undergraduate, master`s and doctoral programs in various areas. Tsinghua campuses cover an area of 392 hectares with 42 student dormitory buildings. The Center for Science, Technology and Society at Tsinghua (STS Tsinghua Center) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of research, education, and public debate on the role of science and technology in contemporary societies. Through integrated, cross-disciplinary initiatives in research, teaching, training, and public outreach the Program seeks to develop foundational, policy-relevant insights into the nature of science and technology, and the ways in which they both influence and are influenced by society, politics, and culture. Among the fields that significantly contribute to the STS Tsinghua Center’s core mission are science and technology studies, anthropology, comparative politics, history, government, law, and sociology.The Center conducts rigorous and sustained research on both national and international topics. Research projects in this STS center range broadly across the philosophical, historical, political, and social studies of science and technology, but center faculty and fellows have developed a special focus on topics involving the scientific practice, science communication, innovation policy, S&T strategy, technology governance and so on.
