National Research Tomsk State University is the largest classical university in the Asian part of Russia, the acknowledged center of science, education and innovations. TSU founded on the 28th of May in 1878 by decree of Emperor Alexander II as Imperial Tomsk University became the first and for a long time remained the only institution of higher education on the vast territory from the Ural Mountains to the Pacific. For its outstanding service in the progress of science, education and culture, Tomsk University was included by executive order of the President of the Russian Federation in the State Code of particularly valuable objects of the cultural heritage of Russian nations. In 2006 TSU became a member of the European Universities Association (EUA). TSU was the winner of the contest for conferring the status of National Research University (2010). 135 years TSU has been engaged in the training of the scientific and managerial elite, based on the principles of integration of the academic process and fundamental scientific research.
