Samara State Aerospace University (SSAU) is a National Research University which prides itself not just on its contributions to the field of aerospace science, but also on resolving important economic, social and political issues in Russia. SSAU was created in 1942, the height of World War Two. Its first teachers were top scientists evacuated from Moscow, Leningrad and other major cities to the relative safety of Samara. 110 majors and six minors are available to study at the university. SSAU has numerous faculties and institutions covering fields which range from sociology to economics and management. Of course, the university has several specialist institutes dedicated to aerospace, such as the Space Engineering Institute, Aerospace Propulsion Institute and Aeronautical Engineering Institute.
