Kyushu University

Kyushu University, founded in 1911 as Kyushu Imperial University along with its College of Engineering, took its first step as the 4th imperial university by incorporating Fukuoka Medical College, which had been established in 1903. Since then various reforms have been made to the higher education system in Japan, such as the reorganization of national universities to University Corporations in 2004. Kyushu University marks its first centennial anniversary in 2011.

As stipulated in the Charters of Education and Research, in the field of education, Kyushu University aims to encourage higher education that attracts a wide range of people from all over the world, to develop highly specialized students to play leading global roles in relevant fields, and to contribute to global development. In the field of research, Kyushu University defines its missions as those that respect humanity`s longstanding pursuit of truth and wisdom, that are disseminated to future generations, that develop new prospects based on traditions in education, and that produce world-class and advanced intellectual achievements. To these ends, we must remain open-minded, vigorous, and insightful. Further, we must continue to take on new challenges, make tireless efforts to scale new heights, and be pioneers in finding new horizons.
