Rakuten, Inc. is a Japanese electronic commerce and online retailing company based in Tokyo, founded in 1997 by Japanese businessman Hiroshi Mikitani. Its B2B2C e-commerce platform Rakuten Ichiba is the largest e-commerce site in Japan and among the world’s largest by sales. 

Rakuten, Inc. engages in the internet services business. It operates through the following segments: Internet Services, Internet Finance, and Others. The Internet Services segment deals with advertising and content sales in internet shopping mall, various e-commerce sites, hotel reservation sites, and portal sites. The Internet Finance segment handles banking and securities, credit card related services, and electronic money (e-money) businesses. The Others segment includes telecommunication service and manages professional baseball team. The company was founded by Hiroshi Mikitani on February 7, 1997 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
