National Sun Yat-Sen University
NationalSun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) was founded in 1980 in Kaohsiung and became oneof the fastest growing universities in Taiwan. NSYSU has endeavored to pursue excellence inteaching and research and to achieve the goal under the guidelines of Aim forthe Top University Plan funded by the Ministry of Education. With Six collegesincluding Liberal Arts, Science, Engineering, Management, Marine Sciences, andSocial Sciences, NSYSU offers 20 Bachelor`s, 37 Master`s and 27 DoctoralPrograms. There are currently about 9,500 students enrolled and 481 full-timefaculty members. The university hasforged partnerships with more than 140 academic institutions in over 37countries. There are more than 400 internationalstudents studying in NSYSU for short-term and long-term studies. The Chinese Language Center also provides variouslevels of courses for international students to improve the language and toknow the culture. Besides academic and research prestige, the university campus is situated nextto sea and mountain where hiking and water sports, such as wind surfing andboat sailing, are common student activities. Interesting species such as Macaque Monkeys and Cacatus Parrots add anecdotesto the campus life.
Vision of NSYSU With the South as our foothold, the University faces the nation and takes a global view. The University endeavors to be an institution where prospective students aspire after and exceptional professionals gather about; honored by its alumni and highly identified by society. Cultivation of Exceptional Talent Open-minded and Well-balanced Young Talents NSYSU has a unique natural resource the ocean; thus, the University offers related courses including scuba diving and boat sailing as over 300 students have participated in 2008 and 29 students among them have earned an international diving license. In addition, the University encourages students by providing funding to participate in international academic and sports competitions. In fact, three students from NSYSU, Huang Yu-ting, Lo Wei-lin, and Hsu Chiao-ren, represented Taiwan in the Speed Skating competition in the 2009 World Games and earned 4 Gold Medals and 3 Silver Medals. Also, students are encouraged to participate in international programs hosted by non-governmental organization (NGO) to gain experiences in the operations and affairs of international organization.
