Michael Moritz

Sir Michael Jonathan Moritz KBE is a British venture capitalist and former journalist who was born in Wales. Moritz works for Sequoia Capital and is a philanthropist and author of the first history of Apple Inc., The Little Kingdom, and of Going for Broke: Lee Iacocca’s Battle to Save Chrysler. 

  • Wales native Michael Moritz got his start as a journalist at Time Magazine after emigrating to America in 1976.
  • Moritz wrote an early biography of Steve Jobs and Apple, “The Little Kingdom,” while Time’s San Francisco bureau chief.
  • After making the jump to venture capital firm Sequoia Capital, Moritz invested in companies such as Google, LinkedIn and PayPal.
  • A diagnosis with a rare and undisclosed medical condition led Moritz to step back from a leadership role at Sequoia in 2012.
  • His condition hasn’t stopped him from working with current portfolio companies including Instacart, Klarna and Stripe.
  • Moritz took over support of the prestigious Booker Prize for literature through his foundation in June 2019.
