Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo is a Colombian billionaire and the wealthiest man in Colombia, with a net worth of $11.3 billion, as of 2019, that derives from the banking conglomerate Grupo Aval Acciones y Valores, SA, of which he is the majority shareholder and president.

  • Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo took a fortune amassed in the construction industry and invested it in banks.
  • His Grupo Aval now controls one third of all banks in Colombia. The octogenarian still chairs the company.
