Hans Rausing

Hans A. Rausing, KBE was a Swedish businessman and philanthropist based in the United Kingdom. He made his fortune from his co-inheritance of Tetra Pak, a company founded by his father Ruben Rausing, and the largest food packaging company in the world. In 1995 he sold his share of the company to his brother, Gad.

  • Hans Rausing, an heir to packaging giant Tetra Laval, died at age 93 in August 2019. He served as CEO of the company from 1950 to 1983.
  • He sold his share in the company to his brother Gad for an estimated $7 billion in 1995; Gad died in 2000 and his children are billionaires.
  • Rausing moved to the U.K. in the early 1980s to avoid punitive Swedish taxes.
  • Rausing lived on a 900-acre estate in the village of Wadhurst where he bred deer and wild boar. He also had homes in London and Barbados.
  • His Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project at the University of London supports research, training, and archiving of disappearing languages.
